A broad spectrum antibiotic in a 50 µg/ml working concentration that inhibits protein synthesis in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. Widely used as a selection agent for cells carrying the Pac resistance gene encoding puromycin N-acetyl-transferase.
