Proteinase K is a serine endopeptidase isolated from Tritirachium album, known for its keratin-hydrolyzing activity. It is commonly used to degrade enzymes such as microbial or mammalian DNases and RNases during cell digestion. Proteinase K is activated by 0.5–1% SDS or urea within a pH range of 4.3–12.0 and remains stable in the presence of Ca²⁺.
